AAPI Heritage Month is a month-long celebration in the USA that honors and celebrates the history, culture, and achievements of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans. It was first established in 1977 as Asian Pacific American Heritage Week by Congress, and later expanded to a month-long celebration in 1992.

The month of May was chosen to commemorate the arrival of the first known Japanese immigrant to the United States, on May 7, 1843, as well as to mark the completion of the transcontinental railroad, largely built by Chinese immigrants, on May 10, 1869.

AAPI Heritage Month celebrates the contributions and accomplishments of individuals and communities with roots in Asia, including East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and the Pacific Islands. It's an opportunity to recognize the rich diversity and history of Asian and Pacific Islander cultures, as well as to raise awareness about the challenges and issues facing these communities.
