Spring is just around the corner for almost everyone in the northern hemisphere, so you know what that means… SPRING CLEANING! Your reaction to that is either: 1. Someone who got really, really excited about cleaning and decluttering or 2. Someone who sweeps spring cleaning under the rug 😂—pun intended. Truthfully speaking, I’m the latter. Cleaning is always on my to-do list and something I always push off. If you are like me, here are some tips on how to make things easier.

Overtime—one great sale after another, your closet starts to fill up with clothes that you probably don’t wear all that often. That jacket looked amazing online, but the material wasn’t what you were expecting. It just ended up sitting in your closet for the longest time. You always wait for that perfect occasion to bring it out for a spin, but let’s be real, that time ain’t comin’. A general rule of thumb is, if you haven’t worn it in over a year, it’s time to let it go. If you aren’t grabbing for a piece of clothing, it’s just taking up space! Next time you shop, try looking for quality investment pieces that will transcend time and washes.

If you didn’t know already, makeup and skincare have expiration dates. There are plenty of articles and beauty gurus telling you about how most makeup expires in about a year, maximum of two for certain products. If they have changed in smell, texture, or consistency—you have to get rid of it.

We all have bought something because it was hyped up by a beauty guru, and turns out, it just wasn’t meant to be. Now, you have a practically new color correcting palette that is well past it’s return date cluttering your makeup table. It pains you to give it away, but if you do it you’ll feel so much better. After it’s gone, you honestly won’t even notice because you weren’t using it in the first place. Hey, at the very least, you racked in some points at Sephora!

I don’t know about you but I am extremely sentimental. It is hard for me to throw things away, because for some reason, I’m attached to it. This especially applies to gifts, even if I have no use for them or don’t like them. I feel like throwing it away would be a waste, or even rude. However, those gifts have already served its initial purpose and if they no longer give you joy, then it is a time to give those things a new home.

Cleaning can seem like a daunting task, but if you set one solid afternoon aside to clear your space, you’ll find a new sense of positive and productive energy around you. To make things a little more fun, plan a special dinner at the end of the day to reward yourself!

I'm definitely not a decluttering guru or expert, but I hope this was helpful to some of you! When it comes to things like this, the best thing to do is just to do it. The main take away is if you aren't using it, get rid of it!

Good Luck!

Very simple. Easy to read through and to the point. I’m encouraged to take charge and declutter tomorrow. Especially since I’ll be stuck home during this fourth snowstorm. Thanks!
